Day 2 sales-topper secured by Blandford
BLANDFORD Bloodstock enjoyed a fruitful trip to this week’s Keeneland January Sale as they bought five broodmares for a total of just over $1.6million.
Perhaps the most eyecatching purchase was the Day Two session-topper Magnificent Honour, who went under the hammer for $600,000.
An AP Indy mare, she is an unraced full sister to 2007 Belmont Stakes winner Rags To Riches.
The 10-year-old is also a half-sister to 2006 Belmot Stakes winner Jazil, a Breeders’ Cup Marathon scorer Man of Iron and Casino Drive, who was victorious at Grade 2 level.
Consigned by the agent Paramount Sales, Magnificent Honour is currently in foal to Giant’s Causeway and has been bought by a European client of Blandford’s.
The Newmarket agency’s chairman Tom Goff said: “She was a standout on pedigree – it’s probably one of the best families in the American Stud Book, in my opinion.”
