Blandford busy at Keeneland
BLANDFORD Bloodstock were in action at the Keenland Breeding Stock Sale in America last week where they purchased seven lots.
Kobla was the team’s most expensive purchase at $525,000. The Strawberry Road-mare is the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Quality Road and is believed to be in foal to Elusive Quality again. Kobla’s dam, Winglet was a Grade 2 winner and has bred three Stakes performers.
Another buy that takes the eye is lot 579, Carriage Trade. The daughter of Storm Cat cost $320,000 but comes from a prolific stakes winning family. Her dam Totemic was a Grade 3 winner and has produced three Stakes winning offspring including the top-class Cherokee. Blandford also purchased another daughter of Storm Cat in Sultana for $120,000. The mare is believed to be in foal to Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Blame.
Blandford paid $270,000 for three-year-old Drop The Gift. The daughter of Lemon Drop Kid is unraced but comes from a top-US family which includes Christmas Gift and Christmas Kid.
Blandford also purchased lot 925, a colt foal by first-season-sire U S Ranger. They paid $190,000 for this strong-looking individual who is a half-brother to Affirmed Cat and La Grand Bailadora.
