I’m A Dreamer scoops Group 3 prize
I’M A Dreamer, a Blandford yearling purchase, was an emphatic winner of the Group 3 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket on Qipco 1000 Guineas day.
The daughter of Noverre was knocked down to Blandford for 40,000gns at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales in 2008.
Trained by David Simcock I’m A Dreamer won three races last year and was a good third in a competitive Listed race at Ascot on her last start.
She had strengthened up over the winter and looked a picture in the paddock prior to her run on Sunday.
Jockey William Buick settled I’m A Dreamer at the rear of the field. She always travelled smoothly and hit the front over a furlong from home.
Once hitting the rising ground she surged further clear of her rivals to win by over four lengths.
Simcock said: “She’s a filly that we minded last year with her four-year-old season in mind. Although I’m not totally surprised to see her win, I thought she would come on for this.
“Even though it means stepping down a furlong, she’ll go for the Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot next. That seems the ideal race for her and then she could step up to 10 furlongs afterwards.”
Later in the afternoon the three-year-old Buthelezi, another Blandford yearling purchase, gained a third career win when taking the competitive 1m2f handicap in good style.
