Goff set to go extra mile for charities
BLOODSTOCK agent Tom Goff is aiming to raise £50,000 by walking from Cheltenham Racecourse to Newmarket Racecourse next month.
Goff, a director at the Newmarket-based consultancy Blandford Bloodstock, will undertake the 140 mile trek on behalf of three organisations – EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices), Racing Welfare and Save Historic Newmarket.
The walk will be split into eight stages and Goff will start out from Cheltenham Racecourse on Monday, March 21 at 8AM and finish the following Monday, March 28 at Newmarket Racecourse at 10.00AM.
The first leg of his walk will take him to Chipping Camden before he heads on to Paul Webber’s Cropredy Lawn training base. Further stops at Towcester Racecourse, Bedford and Cambridge will precede the closing leg which concludes at the Rowley Mile winning post.
Goff, purchaser of the likes of Group 1 stars Dutch Art, Arctic Cosmos and Dancer’s Daughter, will be supported throughout his walk by a number of friends and colleagues. The final leg will see him accompanied by friends from Newmarket and the bloodstock and racing industries.
Goff said: “Last year, I took the rather drastic step of shaving my head to raise money and that secured a pretty tidy sum. So, this year, I thought I’d try and go the extra mile – or 140 miles to be precise – and take a few days out walking for EACH, Racing Welfare and Save Historic Newmarket.
“Some people will be amazed to learn that I am already in training and, while I am expecting plenty of blisters and the odd splint along the way, I am confident we shall hit our daily targets and reach Newmarket at 10AM on Monday, March 28.
“It might not be an epic trek along the lines of Sir Ian Botham’s famous fundraisers, but I do hope that the challenge will encourage people to donate generously, knowing that their contributions are bound for three excellent causes.”
