Balthazaar’s Gift among winning Blandford-purchased trio
ON the same afternoon that Blandford Bloodstock were hailing their purchase of St Leger winner Arctic Cosmos, the Newmarket-based business also saw three more of their buys in the winner’s enclosure.
The most high-profile of the trio was Balthazaar’s Gift, successful in the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster.
He was knocked down to Blandford for 105,000 guineas at Tattersalls Horses in Training sale in October 2008.
Now seven, the Clive Cox-trained ’entire’ sped through the closing stages of the seven-furlong race to win by half a length from Premio Loco.
Also on the card, Buthelezi maintained his progression with a narrow win in the 1m nursery on Town Moor. Blandford signed for him as a yearling in 2009 when he fetched $300,000.
Over at Chester, Foghorn Leghorn completed a day to remember for agents Tom Goff and Richard Brown when the chestnut son of Medicean – bought for £26,000 at the 2009 St Leger Yearling sales – came home a convincing winner of 5.5f nursery.
