Halekulani shows promise in Oz

BLANDFORD purchase Halekulani looks to have a promising future ahead of him based on an eye-catching debut in Australia at Canterbury on August 25.

The three-year-old son of Encosta de Lago was bought for Aus$375,000 from the Coolmoore draft at the 2009 Australian Easter Yearling sale.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse, he had shown up well in two recent barrier trials and transferred that form to the raceday.

He won by two lengths at the New South Wales track, near Sydney, under apprentice Brake Spriggs.

Fingers crossed for connections that he can build on this encouraging start and secure more successes in the future.
