Blandford Bloodstock

Blandford among leading buyers at Doncaster

BLANDFORD Bloodstock were among the leading buyers at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sales where they purchased 11 lots for an average of £32,727.

The most expensive lot brought by the Newmarket-based agency was lot 14, a £75,000 chestnut filly by first-season sire and dual 2000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel.

Her dam Roo was a fast juvenile herself being placed in the Firth of Clyde Stakes. Roo’s progeny to date have also been blessed with speed, most notably Gallagher who was among the top two-year-olds in the country in 2008.

Shamardal is proving to be one of the best young sires around and Blandford went to £62,000 to secure a daughter of the Darley-based stallion.

Being a half-sister to Group performers Polar Ben and Franklins Gardens she had one of the nicest pedigrees in the catalogue.

Another popular first-season sire was Dutch Art and Blandford succeeded in buying a colt by the Prix Morny winner for £48,000.
