Blandford Bloodstock

Blandford buy Dream Ahead is G1 winner

DREAM Ahead provided Blandford Bloodstock with a notable success with victory at the highest level in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville on August 22.

Blandford, who signed the ticket for the son of Diktat for just £36,000 at the Doncaster Breeze-up sales in the spring, was making only his second racecourse appearance.

Owned by Khalifa Dasmal, Dream Ahead created a favourable impression when romping home by nine lengths on his debut at Nottingham . But  the 6f race in France was a serious step up in grade..

Trainer David Simcock has always held the strapping colt in high regard and decided to bypass York’s Acomb Stakes in favour of the Deauville engagement. History shows it was a shrewd move.

As for the tale of the tape, Dream Ahead settled into a smooth rhythm in the hands of William Buick but was caught slightly wide on the outside.

When those on the front end began to toil Buick kicked for home and his mount showed a smart turn of foot to surge into the lead.

On hitting the front Dream Ahead showed no signs of greenness and galloped strongly to the line to record a length and a half victory over Tin Horse.

Dream Ahead’s dam, Land Of Dreams, is by Cadeaux Genereux and was also a classy juvenile, winning the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster over five furlongs. Her other five foals to date include dual Listed winner Into The Dark, by Rainbow Quest.

Simcock has now pointed the way to the Middle Park Stakes and the Dewhurst Stakes (both at Newmarket in October) for this exciting colt, who occupies a prominent position in the betting for next year’s 2000 Guineas.
