Blandford Bloodstock

News from Fasig-Tipton

THE 2010 Yearling Sales season got underway at Saratoga’s Fasig-Tipton with its Select Book of Yearlings on August 2-3.

The Blandford Bloodstock team purchased four yearlings for a combined total of $735,000.

The first lot knocked down to Blandford was lot 19, a colt by Haskell Invitational winner, Any Given Saturday. He is out of a Canadian Listed winner called Can Ihavethisdance whose first foal was a winner at two.

Yearlings by Darley’s Dubawi are going to be hard to come by this year following the success of his first crop of three-year-olds which include 2000 Guineas hero Makfi and Italian 2000 Guineas winner Worthadd.

However, Blandford successfully purchased a filly by the son of Dubai Millennium for $200,000 (lot 56). Her dam, Fawaayid has bred six winners including the dam of Hungerford Stakes winner Balthazaar’s Gift.

The third yearling brought by a member of the team was lot 78, a filly by Forest Wildcat. This filly’s page is covered in ‘black type’ and her sire has produced no less than 61 Pattern level winners.

Lot 148 was the final lot knocked down to Blandford, a colt by Medaglia d’Oro out of Racing Heart. Medaglia d’Oro is still a comparatively young stallion but has already sired 2009 horse of the year Rachel Alexandra and the Group 1 winner Passion for Gold.
