Coordinated Cut nails HQ valuable victory
COORDINATED Cut produced a high-class effort to take the £250,000 Tattersalls Timeform 3-Y-O Trophy at Newmarket this afternoon.
The striking son of Montjeu, brought by Blandford Bloodstock at Tattersalls October Book 1 in 2008 for 325,000 guineas, has now confirmed himself as a possible contender for this year’s Derby.
Jockey Jamie Spencer settled the 9/1 chance close to the pace which was strong right from the outset.
When they went into the Dip only Frankie Dettori aboard Ameer travelled as well and the pair soon quickened clear of the rest.
As they entered the final furlong Ameer still had the edge but Coordinated Cut wore him down under Spencer’s drive to get up by a head.
Winning trainer Michael Bell said: “He loves fast ground and I think he got bogged down in the Racing Post Trophy as he was a weak horse last year.
“But he has done nothing but thrive over the winter and has improved physically every month and his work has been encouraging.
“That is a very nice start to the year and we will run him next in a Derby trial with the Dante being my preferred option, so that is where he will go next I would have thought.”
